"Deceiver" Day
I walked into school this past Thursday in a good mood. I was planning on playing a trick on Agnes and telling her that Ernest, the new teacher, could no longer come. As soon as I walked into the teachers room, Rosa (a korean kinder teacher) said hello and continued on with her work. She turned to me a few minutes later and said "You know....Angela is getting married!" I was like "Really?! When? How do I say congratulations?" She slowly repeated for me how to say it and I turned to do something, still smiling. She turns back to me a few minutes later in her little korean voice and says....."uh today is uh.....traditional korean day..." It took me maybe a few seconds to put it together. So much for me getting to play a trick on Agnes. I was dupped within seconds myself! I gave her a playful slap and couldn' t help but start chuckling. April Fools....
The teachers had a short meeting after our 5pm classes, before the 6pms started. Because of that I had arrived a few minutes late to class. My 6pm class that day was 11 ten and eleven year olds. Most of these kids I've been teaching close to a year and they've grown quite used to me, and are almost always very enthusiastic to learn. Being that young as well, they are quite boisterious as well. So, after our meeting I walked into class to find them all with their heads down in complete silence. I noticed one student clutching her stomache and another mock crying. After already having fallen for another teachers prank, I figured I should play along with this one. I walked up to one and asked what was wrong. "I feel sick!", was the response. I tried to help a "crying" child as well. They all burst up after a minute and were screaming "Just kidding teacher!". We studied a dialogue about feeling sick, and a long time ago, I taught them just kidding. It was sweet. It was their own little April Fools on me.
